From Hollywood to Holmfirth: Jack Daniel’s brings US Rockers Rival Sons to kick off the UK leg of their World Tour in the quiet West Yorkshire town

Jack Rocks Your Town sees the Long Beach, CA band giving residents an unforgettable rock ‘n’ roll experience before headlining the Picturedrome venue on 24th March

In the latest of its ‘Jack Rocks’ series of events, Jack Daniel’s will be bringing some rock ‘n’ roll to one of the quaintest towns in Britain; Holmfirth.  The iconic Tennessee whiskey brand has invited the Californian rockers Rival Sons to give residents a live music experience they won’t forget.  

Rival Sons are used to life on the road as one of America’s hottest rock ‘n’ roll acts.  Hailing from Long Beach, California, the band have shared stages with the likes of Lenny Kravitz and Aerosmith, toured all over the world playing cities from Johannesburg to Tokyo and have bagged high-profile TV slots on Late Night with David Letterman and Later… with Jools Holland.  

The band will rock Holmfirth, a quintessentially English postcard-perfect town with a population of 1,900 throughout the day on 24th March.  Arriving early via helicopter and landing at Holmfirth Cricket Club, Rival Sons will be met with a welcome party at the club’s pavilion before spend the day hanging out with the town’s residents ahead of the gig that evening and filming a video on location.  Expect them to be spotted enjoying local pubs, cafes and even meeting the local mayor.  

Despite the town being rural, it possesses a hidden music gem in the form of the Holmfirth Picturedrome.  A 650-capacity live music venue and one of the world’s first cinemas, it made the shortlist in NME and Jack Daniel’s quest to find Britain’s Best Small Venue in 2014. To top off a perfect day Rival Sons will finish by playing a headline slot there. Emerging artists will be given the chance the shine too with support coming from local band Crybabycry who were suggested by the venue’s Head Promoter Pete Carr as ones to watch in the future as well as main support from hotly-tipped Domino Recordings signings and Artic Monkeys labelmates The Bohicas.  As well as inviting local residents, Jack Daniel’s will also be bussing in fans from nearby towns Huddersfield, Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester especially for the one-off free gig.

Things don’t end there though as Jack Daniel’s and Rival Sons are destined to give Holmfirth a high-octane night it’ll never forget; The Box Office venue is to be transformed and will host an exclusive aftershow party hosted by Britain’s legendary rock ‘n’ roll clubnight This Feeling, featuring a DJ set from the future face of Radio 1’s Chart Show Clara Amfo.

Jack Rocks Your Town continues Jack Daniel’s Jack Rocks series of events celebrating live music in real places and follows on from their four-month collaboration with the East London venue Jack Rocks The Macbeth and its ongoing monthly Jack Rocks partnership with iconic independent venues all over the UK.

Aussie hard rockers MASSIVE have released video footage from a live acoustic session recorded at Google/YouTube UK headquarters.

MASSIVE were invited to the internet giant's creator space in London during their first ever European tour last year, with frontman Brad Marr and lead guitarist Ben Laguda recording acoustic renditions of the songs "Ghost" and "One By One", which appear on their debut album, FULL THROTTLE.

KAGOULE KICK OFF UK TOUR IN LONDON

OCEANO ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM AND HEADLINING TOUR

Chicago deathcore heavyweights OCEANO have revealed details for their upcoming new studio album, ASCENDANTS, as well as dates for a headlining tour.

The album is due to be released on March 23rd in Europe and March 24th in the USA, and will be OCEANO's first new release since 2013's INCISIONS.  The album was recorded at The Nook studio in New Lenox, Illinois with producer Nick Nativo (MONSTERS).

OCEANO frontman Adam Warren comments:

A brand new, vinyl-only edition of the classic BOLT THROWER 'Peel Sessions' recorded for legendary Radio One DJ John Peel is out now.

Recorded between 1988 and 1990, the vinyl features 12 tracks which chart the development of the band from early punk-influenced recordings through to the more death metal approach of the final session, including raw versions of classics such as "War Master" and "Drowned in Torment".

From the very earliest days of Earache Records, BBC National Radio's John Peel was a huge supporter of the Earache label and its extreme grindcore bands.  Peel first offered BOLT THROWER a session in 1988, and invited them back at the end of 1988 and again in 1990 to the hallowed Maida Vale studios to lay down some classic recordings.

SAVAGE MESSIAH KICK OFF EUROPEAN TOUR WITH AMON AMARTH TONIGHT

London metallers SAVAGE MESSIAH are due to kick off a European tour tonight - Thursday, 15th January - supporting Swedish melodic death metal titans AMON AMARTH.

The 'Deceiver of the Gods' European tour starts off in Lille, France, then immediately heads to the UK for a two-week stint before returning to mainland Europe.  Also joining AMON AMARTH and SAVAGE MESSIAH are HUNTRESS.

Long Beach, California's RIVAL SONS are currently winding up the UK leg of their European tour, and are delighted to announce they will be heading back in March and April 2015 which will see them headline the prestigious Roundhouse in London.  Tickets go on sale THURSDAY 18TH DECEMBER 2014 – 10AM.

The band recently performed on Later With Jools Holland, following another TV appearance in the USA on the Late Show with David Letterman and a phenomenal performance at the star-studded Classic Rock Roll of Honour awards in LA.  They also fitted in a last minute support slot with Lenny Kravitz at Wembley Arena.

With elements of psychedelia and more than a nod to soul, the new RIVAL SONS album ‘Great Western Valkyrie’ received rave reviews when it was released earlier this year. It was rated the No.1 album of 2014 by Classic Rock magazine as well as hitting the Top 20 albums of the year in Kerrang magazine. This, their fifth record in as many years saw the band yet again recording live in Nashville, using '50s gear borrowed from Sun studios, acknowledging their heritage, but always having their eyes and ears focussed on the 21st Century.

EX-EVILE GUITARIST OL DRAKE MIXING SOLO ALBUM WITH JAMES MURPHY; ARTWORK REVEALED

Former EVILE lead guitarist OL DRAKE is currently mixing his debut solo album with producer and former DEATH/OBITUARY/TESTAMENT guitarist JAMES MURPHY.

The six-string shredder has been working on his first album of extreme instrumental music, which was recorded in the guitarist's home studio and is due to be released in 2015 under the title 'Old Rake'.

OL DRAKE comments:

"Finally, I can reveal the artwork I've had for the 14 months I've spent finding my feet, laughing at the artwork, writing and recording this album.  Fans took to calling me 'Old Rake' instead of 'Ol Drake' and it kind of stuck, so I thought I'd honour their hugely creative moving of one letter by calling this solo debut 'Old Rake' by 'Ol Drake' and creating a logo (by Chris Gunnz) for the 'Ol Drake' album saying 'Old Rake'; confusing, no?  Thought not.

"I'm honoured to have the great James Murphy mixing the album.  Since I was a teenager I've been a fan of James' playing in Testament, Obituary and Death, so having worked with him on this has had the 16-year old in me shouting strange noises at me in my head.  You shan't be disappointed!  Especially if you're a guitarist.

"The album was produced by myself and James.  It has been recorded in my home studio, 'StudiOliveR' in Huddersbottom (I moved from Huddersfield to Ramsbottom in Bury amidst recording it) and it is now in the capable hands of Mr. James Murphy; he's currently mixing it to shred-y perfection.

"In the album art, I wanted to show me raking lots of people up with a rake, because that seemed to make sense at the time.  It doesn't now but it's still funny.  I didn't want a stock picture of me holding a guitar as if to say 'Hey guys, I'm here holding a guitar and this is my album'.  I hope you enjoy it, and your support on its release will be hugely appreciated."

Produced by studio legend Brendan O'Brien (AC/DC, PEARL JAM, SOUNDGARDEN, THE BLACK CROWES), 'Holding All the Roses' follows the band's double live album/DVD set, 'Leave a Scar: Live in North Carolina', which romped into the UK national album chart at #35, and February 2014's UK Top 30 album, 'The Whippoorwill'.  The album cycle saw the five-piece make three visits to the UK, with each batch of dates selling out in advance, even with numerous upgraded venues.

With plaudits across the board from MOJO, Classic Rock, The Guardian and The Times, the future for BLACKBERRY SMOKE looks exciting.  Plans are underway for a live return next summer.  Watch this space.

RIVAL SONS PREPARE TO KICK OFF EUROPEAN TOUR THIS SUNDAY

Long Beach, California's RIVAL SONS are due to kick off a headlining European tour this Sunday, November 9th in Frankfurt, Germany.

The hotly-tipped tour follows the band's phenomenal performance at the star-studded Classic Rock Roll of Honour awards in LA earlier this week, as well as recent TV appearances on the Late Show with David Letterman in the USA and Later... with Jools Holland in the UK, reaching millions of households on both sides of the Atlantic in the process.

BLACKBERRY SMOKE UNVEILS NEW ALBUM 'HOLDING ALL THE ROSES' PRODUCED BY BRENDAN O'BRIEN

On February 9, 2015,  Atlanta’s Blackberry Smoke will release Holding All the Roses, the band’s fourth studio album.  "I think that this record does a really good job of conveying what we do and what we're about," says singer-guitarist-songwriter Charlie Starr.

Holding All the Roses compellingly captures the energy, attitude and honesty that have already helped to make Blackberry Smoke one of America's hottest live rock 'n' roll outfits, as well as a grass-roots phenomenon with a large and fiercely loyal fan base.

The 12-song set - produced by Brendan O'Brien, whose previous production clients have included AC/DC, Aerosmith, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young - showcases the Atlanta-based quintet's emotion-charged mix of bluesy rock, gospel soul, and country, with Starr's raspy twang matched by his and Paul Jackson's snarling guitars, Brandon Still's hauntingly expressive organ and piano, and the propulsive sibling rhythm section of Richard and Brit Turner.  The songs' musical and emotional appeal is further elevated by the band's three-part vocal harmonies and expanded arrangements that make judicious use of fiddle and added percussion.

The musical maturity that's on display throughout Holding All the Roses underlines Blackberry Smoke's steady evolution from rough-edged club act to arena-ready rock 'n' roll juggernaut.  Since its formation in 2000, the band has never shied away from hard work, playing more than 250 shows a year and building an ever-expanding audience on the strength of its live shows, and with a noticeable lack of mainstream hype.

"We've built our audience one fan at a time," states drummer Brit Turner.  "Sometimes it feels like we know every one of them personally, and we're constantly amazed and moved by their loyalty and passion."

Along the way, Blackberry Smoke has found time to record a handful of independent releases, including the albums Bad Luck Ain't No Crime, Little Piece of Dixie, and The Whippoorwill, plus a pair of EPs, the concert DVD Live at the Georgia Theatre, and the live CD/DVD set Leave A Scar.

In addition to winning fans and friends throughout the United States, they've toured Europe three times, had their songs featured in movie and video-game soundtracks, and performed for country legend George Jones (who guested on the band's second album) on his 80th birthday.

Jones isn't the only notable artist who's come out as a Blackberry Smoke fan.  Dierks Bentley, Jamey Johnson, Grace Potter and the Zac Brown Band have all gone on record as admirers, while ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons admiringly advised, "The band is tight enough.  Quit practicing!," and no less an authority than Gregg Allman stated "That band is gonna put Southern Rock back on the map."

The critics agree. The Washington Post proclaimed them “a band that can reclaim Southern Rock for the South,” and the Atlanta Journal Constitution declared, “The Atlanta quintet is the real deal.” Billboard praised their “epic-sounding ballads,” and The New Orleans Times-Picayune called them "an airtight band that is far smarter and more sophisticated than casual observers may realize... Blackberry Smoke's amalgamation of hearty Southern rock, alt-country and deep soul is equally suited for roadhouses or arenas."

The acclaim extends to the other side of the Atlantic.  The London Times noted, "Unpretentious and as musically tight as you would expect a band who plays night after night would be, Blackberry Smoke brought a little bit of Georgia sunshine to a rainy night in London."  The English hard-rock journal Kerrang! proclaimed, "Blackberry Smoke are now a Big Deal...  They've achieved it simply because they're awesome."

While the five bandmates are excited at the potential of reaching new listeners, they're not planning on altering their approach for mass consumption.

"The plan for this record," Charlie says, "is to go out and play as much as we can, and just take it to the people.  There's so much that's out of your hands when you release a record, but that's the part that we can control.  That, and making an effort to make a better record every time."
