CAULDRON FRONTMAN JASON DECAY ASKS "WHAT DEATH METAL SCENE?"

The Salty Pirate recently spent some time with CAULDRON frontman Jason
Decay and had a chat with him about the band's recent trip to Europe,
HEAVY METAL KILLERS, stomach problems, ANVIL and how the Canadian
death metal scene affected (or in this case, didn't affect) their sound:

"TSP: With a lot of the younger generation of headbangers getting
their rocks off with extreme/death metal, what drew you fellows to the
old styles, especially with Canada being so well known for it's death
metal scene ?

JASON: What death metal scene? Those bands that hibernate up in
Quebec? We're used to Anvil, Sacrifice, Metallian, Maniac, Exciter,
mid-80's Lee Aaron, Thor, Reckless, Witchkiller, Razor... We're just
playing what we want to hear regardless of what's going on around us
or what's cool; we don't give a fuck about that. I grew up listening
to Metallica through my next door neighbor 20 years ago and not much
has changed since, maybe evolved cause I can't just listen to the
first 4 Metallica over and over, but we're pretty passionate about the
music we love."

LAWNMOWER DETH COMMENT ON DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL

Old-school British thrash metallers LAWNMOWER DETH are finally realising
their dream, as the band recently announced that they will be performing at
Download Festival this Summer.

LAWNMOWER DETH bassist CHRIS "MIGHTYMO DESTRUCTIMO" PARKES comments:

"I guess from my point of view it's every young aspiring rock gods dream. I
went to my first Donington in 1984 when I was still at school and 15/16
years of age with Concorde Face Ripper and was absolutely blown away, and to
think that our little band that was kind of created in our minds around that
time would actually be playing the festival some 25 years later is just
amazing.

"We have done one gig in 13 years and have no management (and never have),
no record company, nothing to promote, no agent, no tour manager and have
always done everything ourselves - it is incredible that we are on this bill
and take absolutely nothing for granted, we are chuffed as ****. And it
also shows that even crap little bands like ours can kind of make it. Can't
wait!"

Vocalist QUALCAST MUTILATOR sums it all up:

ORDER OF ENNEAD REPORT FROM ICONS OF EVIL EURO TOUR

Floridian extreme metallers ORDER OF ENNEAD are currently on the road as
part of the Icons Of Evil European tour with VITAL REMAINS, SLUDGE and
TRIBULATION.

ORDER OF ENNEAD frontman KEVIN QUIRION checks in from the road with the
first part of his tour diary:

"Day 1 Travel day. Oh the joys of waiting at airports they are endless and
not worth mentioning.

"Day 2 Had the day to walk around Amsterdamn before the bus picked us up.
Met up with Dave Kinkade (drummer supreme) and checked out some coffee shops
and walked around the red light district. Good times. Caught up with the
Vital guys roaming around the same section of town, who knew? Took a picture
with Darth Vader, the Netherlands version. He's slightly thinner and has an
accent, probably blonde hair too. Around 6pm we went back to the airport to
meet up with Massive Music and the guys in Tribulation.

"Day 3 Julet, Belgium @ Maison De Tous. Got to the venue around noon. Its in
the shadow of an average sized church. Nice venue, has a gym type of feel to
it. Checked out Tribulation and Sludge also. Sludge showed up a couple hours
before they were suppose to go on. Their singer works in a hospital and told
us a story about a sex change he witnessed. Female to male. I told him I
want a different story every night they are on the bill. Night ended at 3am
when the club finally told everyone to leave.

"Day 4 Groningen, Netherlands @ Vera. Before the show we walked around the
city. Its like a mini-Amsterdamn. Its pretty nice. Good show and another
good show in the Netherlands. After the show Scott and I walked down the
street and got a Doner. Its a Turkish thing thats pretty much everyone here.
Sliced meat right in front of you. Good stuff.

"Day 5 Essen, Germany @ Turok. Ulik, the bass player from Sludge bought
Scott and myself hamburger action today. Show went well and even met some
people that saw us in January in Bochum. They started a chant for us "Book
Again". That was cool. There was an after party following the show until
6am. Man was that a mistake. All I will say is some people were drunk, some
were bloody and the entire tour almost got thrown out of the club. Having 4
bands with near endless beer on tour is probably not a good idea.

"Day 6 Amersfort, Netherlands @ De Kelder. Hung out with Dave Kinkade,
drummer for Borknagar, today and his girlfriend Sophie. They took us to
Burger King and after seeing Indian food on the menu again I was happy. Show
went well eventhough it was an early show. We went on around 5 because it
was a Sunday. Bus driver showed off his great driving skills tonight by
backing up the bus and trailer. Feel safe with him driving every night.

"Day 7 and 8. Days off near Fort Boyard, France. No shows booked for two
days so we hung around southern France for two days. The bus parked about 3
miles from the center of town. There was food close by, but it was
expensive. Had pizza everyday that was actually very good. Bought the guys
in Tribulation crepes. A must in my opinion for anyone visiting France.
Everyone got drunk for two days and some enjoyed very fresh oysters.

"Day 9 Nantes, France @ Le Ferrailleur. Cool venue right on the water.
Scott and I walked to a nearby church. We also saw a very large mechanical
elephant that you could ride. Strange. Its been very hot the last couple of
days and everyone's getting sunburnt. Show was especially good tonight.
Great response for all of the bands and just a great time. Stage was very
hot tonight though. I didn't even see an airconditioning duct in the place.
It was killer. Good night though.

"Day 10 Durango, Spain. Got to town early and walked around by myself and
then later with Eric from Vital and then again with the drummer and bass
player of Sludge. Nice town. Spain is beautiful with its architecture and
atmospher. Sound of stage was awesome tonight and we were told it sounded
great from the crowd also. The crowd is another story though. Just week.
They just stood there and golf clapped most of the night, even for Vital
which is crazy. Just a very inactive crowd, but the promoter says the crowds
have been like that lately. Off to Madrid manana."

"Q: Any symbolism to the album title?
A: It goes back to lifestyle. We are chained to the night, were
addicted to that lifestyle. Drinking beer, crankin' records, wrestling
in the basement, going out and finding hookers. We're stuck in that

can't seem t. We live it."

SEVERE TORTURE WORKING ON NEW ALBUM

Dutch brutal death metallers SEVERE TORTURE have started the writing process
for their next album, the follow-up to 2007's SWORN VENGEANCE.

SEVERE TORTURE bassist PATRICK BOLEIJ discusses the band's recent
activities:

"Here's a short update to let you all know what's been going on in the
Severe Torture camp over the last couple of months. We've actually been
working our asses off, writing the finest death metal tunes possible. We
have about 6 songs down and riffs and ideas for 4 or 5 more. We'll be
finishing those in the next 2 months. Musically it's gonna be one of the
fastest, sickest and most brutal Severe Torture records ever! This stuff is
gonna be fuelled by the sheer disgust of all the whimpy, lame-ass,
fashion-crap that's been polluting the music industry for years. And it
made us realize all the more what we love most... Playing brutal fuckin'
death metal. The plan is to start pre-production in July and have
everything ready for recording in September.

"As far as festivals go we have a pretty laid-back Summer coming up;
"Neurotic Deathfest" on May 30th in Tilburg (Netherlands) and "Move Your
Fucking Brain" in Barcelona (Spain) on the 4th of July. We are exited to
play at Neurotic again this year and we can't wait to play Spain again in
July. Maybe we'll throw in a new song just to try out, who knows... Check

BONDED BY BLOOD FRONTMAN COMMENTS ON 25 YEARS OF TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES

The Empire State Building will light the NYC sky with green tonight.
No, it's not Earth Day hangover. It's to celebrate the 25th
anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. One person who wishes
he was here to see this is BONDED BY BLOOD frontman, Jose "Aladdin"
Barrales.

Jose's life was largely impacted by the 4 heroes in a half shell. "I
got into TMNT around age 5. At that age looking into a tv screen and
watching a bunch of turtles that are kicking ass was a really big
deal." After an entire childhood following the 4 mutated sewer
dwellers, Jose amassed an impressive collection of Turtles memorabilia
throughout the years. "They are still a big part of my life and I keep
most of the TMNT toys and comics in a box next to my other
collectibles. I still have an original Michelangelo in its package -
I'm proud of that one

The Turtles have experienced a major resurgence in popularity over the
last few years, but to Jose and the rest of BONDED BY BLOOD, the
larger than life stars of cartoons, comics, toys and games were always
as big as ever. Their feelings shine through in their fun cover of the
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme song on 2008's FEED THE BEAST.
Played at every show on the band's Masters of Disaster tour, Jose took
particular pride in belting it out at their recent free show in
Queens, NY. "When I got up on stage and yelled how much I loved being
able to sing the song in the hometown of the Ninja Turtles, I felt a
great rush of energy from everyone in the room."

EVILE REPORT FROM UK TOUR

British thrashers EVILE are currently on their first full headlining UK tour
with support from TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED and MUTANT.

EVILE frontman MATT DRAKE reports from the road:

"Hello all, Matt here with a quick update from halfway through our UK
headlining tour. So far no major accidents, we've made it to all the gigs
and it's going pretty smoooooth. Mutant and Trigger the Bloodshed are
excellent guys to be sharing a tour bus with, good company and it's a
pleasure having them along to blow peoples faces off. The shows have been
way beyond my expectations so far, I honestly never expected the amount of
people that have been showing up so thank you to everyone for coming along
and showing your support for Evile.

"We've been enjoying playing the new tracks live as well, the first of the
two we've been playing, 'Demolition', is feeling more and more comfortable
each time we play it, and it's been going down pretty well. It's not in the
finished form it will be on the album and we haven't exactly perfected
playing it yet but you get the idea of where it's going! Out of the new
songs we've got for the next album we chose to play 'Demolition' because we
figured it would be a good introduction to what to expect from our next
recording, but in saying that each song is pretty unique so people still
really aren't going to be able to guess what the next album will be like by
hearing just that new song.

"Back to the tour and we have the last half to go, we're looking forward to
the Camden Underworld gig, last time we played there with Exodus it was
mental so we're hoping to have that kind of reaction again, with it being
our first proper headline tour it's pretty daunting headlining the
Underworld but it's also bloody cool so we can't wait for it. Again thanks
to everyone for showing up and thanks in advance to those people planning to
show up.

"Also looking forward to getting to Hammerfest in Wales, playing on the same
bill as the mighty Opeth and Sepultura at the mighty venue of PONTINS, and
having our first day off on the Saturday so we can wander around and check
out some bands that we haven't had chance to see yet, luckily we don't clash
with Opeth so people can come watch us and then leg it as fast as humanly
possible with us among the mob to bask in the glory that is Opeth."

CAULDRON FRONTMAN JASON DECAY GETS "REVERSE DRUNK" ON 4/20, ANNOUNCES NEW TOUR DATES

Not that many would need an excuse for their favorite past time any
day of the week, but people live for April 20th. This day like no
other day of the year brings people together in the pursuit of total
laziness, mass snack food consumption and to bask around a smoky,
scintillating scent that won't come out of clothing for weeks. While
one might think that you need to smoke to be apart of the festivities,
CAULDRON frontman, Jason Decay, a noted non-pot smoker, has found his
own way to celebrate the occasion:

"I like to get reverse drunk on April 20 cause I don't smoke weed. I
still celebrate 4/20 with all my stoner friends, but since I don't
smoke dope, I like to get as drunk as possible for two weeks straight
before 4/20. When you're used to getting smashed everyday and you take
a day off, you start to hallucinate and think you're going crazy. I
call this getting reverse drunk."

While not reverse drunk, Jason Decay and the rest of CAULDRON can be
found on stage, grinding out melodic, traditional heavy metal for
modern ears. The band is eager to announce a string of new Canadian
dates to go along with the UK mini-tour they'll be playing with
Pomona, CA thrashers BONDED BY BLOOD:

"Should be some pretty rad gigs being back on the road with (our old
drummer) Chambers again along with our rad brawhs P Zells and Joel
Grind. We're going to nuclear thrashic toxic waste the Ontarian kids
with shrouds of alcoholic molten metal annihilation disaster!
Unfortunately we had to pull out of our May 8th release party in
Toronto, but the maniacs of the UK are still hungry and demanded more
ASAP. So we'll be back in the UK May 8th to ram another CAULDRON full
of metal down their english metal throats!"

BLOOD RED THRONE REPORT ON INFERNO FESTIVAL

Norwegian death metal tyrants BLOOD RED THRONE performed at Norway's
notorious Inferno Festival last week, marking the first time in 7 years that
the band have played there.

BLOOD RED THRONE guitarist DØD describes the event:

"First day of Inferno and we just had to set the standard. It was 7 years
since the last time we played here and we were ready to unleash hell.
Besides a crappy soundcheck and also not expecting too many people, we were
met by an almost overcrowded venue screaming for Blood Red Throne. This was
such an inspiration and we hit it off from the very beginning. The playing
was great, the sound was great and the audience made mosh pits, stagedived
and shouted for more. The feedback was totally overwhelming during and
after the show and we had a great time indeed!"

Lane Soderberg of Noise Creep recently had the chance to speak with
Jason Decay, frontman of Canada's leading traditional heavy metal
band, CAULDRON. In this exclusive interview, Jason goes on record
about his hated for nu-metal in its heyday and how the cyclical nature
of musical trends directly influenced the rise of CAULDRON:

"My backlash for that shit started when KORN started ruining the
"Power 30" (Much Music's metal video show) back when I was 14," says
Jason, "And it ended when I simply stopped caring about hating it
anymore. I forget when that was. Like anything, it comes and goes and
it will be back again someday to ruin something else, just like bands
like us are currently ruining it (for nu-metal)."

From their humble beginnings playing basements and skate parks,
Chicago deathcore heavyweights OCEANO have come a long way. In 2009
alone, OCEANO has been praised all across the metal press and become a

EVILE KICK OFF UK TOUR TONIGHT

British thrashers EVILE are set to kick off their first full headlining UK
tour tonight in Birmingham. Support on the tour will come from MUTANT and
TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED, who have just been confirmed to replace WARPATH on
the bill after the band were forced to pull out.

EVILE lead guitarist OL DRAKE comments:

"On Sunday 12th April Warpath let us know they have to pull out of our tour
due to their lead guitarist being 'indirectly involved in a motorcycle
accident' on the 8th. We wish them all the best and hope he has a speedy
recovery.

"We only had 2/3 days to find a replacement band. It's such short notice
for any band to be able to accommodate themselves to a tour which starts in
a few days, which already has arrangements and agreements made, but I want
to personally thank our friends Trigger The Bloodshed for stepping up and
being willing to take part in the tour in place of Warpath. I'd like
everyone to show TTB the same respect and consideration they've shown us in
this situation by giving them a warm welcome onto the tour at the upcoming
shows."

SSS TO TOUR WITH CANCER BATS; REMEMBER HILLSBOROUGH DISASTER

Liverpool's crossover thrashers SSS are currently gearing up for a UK tour
in a couple of weeks with Canadian punks CANCER BATS.

SSS bassist MARK MAGILL reports on what the band have been up to since the
release of their critically acclaimed second album, THE DIVIDING LINE, last
year:

"It's been a while since we've been out and about, so we can't wait to hit
the road this month. Dave had a baby, I insulated my loft, Foxy has been
making brownies and Pete has been researching the dynamics of paper
airplanes. We've also written 14 new songs for our next record and they're
getting so short, fast and heavy it's ridiculous. Come down and say hello!"

tragedy that occurred 20 years ago. On the anniversary of the terrible
events, the band share their thoughts:

"On 15th April 1989, 96 people went to a football match at Hillsborough
Stadium in Sheffield and never returned home. For the past 20 years their
families have been campaigning for the justice they have never received, and
also to change public perception of what happened at that day. We wrote a
song called '3:06' on the second SSS album 'The Dividing Line' and it makes
our feelings on the subject known, but check out this information and make
your own mind up."
