There is something special brewing up in the North West of England right now in the city of Lancaster. Local band MASSIVE WAGONS have been relentlessly working the live circuit whilst also trying to juggle family life & full time jobs but their luck may just be about to change. Signing a record deal, national radio love, major UK festival slots and the chance to open for their heroes Status Quo at Mint Bridge Stadium have seen MASSIVE WAGONS’ meteoric rise from a likeable local band to one of the hottest new Rock bands in the UK that many in the know are tipping for mainstream success.
Tonight they are celebrating with a huge MASSIVE WAGONS ‘Full Nelson’ mural being painted onto the side of Rock venue ‘The Pub” in the centre of Lancaster. The venue, located on China Street, is the spiritual home of MASSIVE WAGONS as it was where they played their first ever gig live show.
Surprisingly, no band formed in Lancaster has ever achieved a Top 40 in the Official UK Album Chart before despite the city being a hotbed of live music for several decades. John Waite achieved a #1 Billboard single in the USA with “When I See You Smile” but the album charts have remained mostly unbothered. That is about to change. MASSIVE WAGONS have a very real chance of making history next month with new album ‘Full Nelson’ and you can help make it happen.
Frontman Baz Mills (who works a full time job driving lorries) said:
”The Pub Lancaster, when the band was in its infancy, was THE place we went, all the time, live music rock bar, we stood and watched hundreds of bands Friday and Saturday nights in there, great times, we always said our goal was to get a gig in The Pub, if we can manage that then we can die happy haha, the buzz when it happened was just incredible, and now we must have played there countless times, to this day some of our best most memorable gigs were in there, so to have the new album art emblazoned on the side of the building 20 feet tall is an honour, the plan is to hopefully hit the official charts with 'Full Nelson' no other Lancaster band has charted an album and we wanna do it, with the people of Lancaster behind us, put the place on the map, it's a stunning city and its rich in musical talent and heritage, it's been good to us so we wanna represent the place, tonight's album launch and the painting unveiling is just the start, what better place to kick the campaign off than the place that kicked us off to start with.”
Massive Wagons band manager Terri Chapman said: “Massive Wagons really do love their beautiful city of Lancaster and to have this mural painted in the city centre truly has been one of their biggest highlights as musicians. To have the people of Lancaster supporting and backing the band all the way would just be incredible, together we can not only put Lancaster back on the rock n roll map but encourage the youngsters that anything is possible. Massive Wagons are one of the hardest working bands I know and to see them hit the Top 40 UK charts and be the first band from Lancaster to do so would be a historical event that we can all be proud of.”
Tom Hadfield, from the band’s record label Earache Records, said: “We set up the mural because we want the people of Lancaster to be proud of Massive Wagons. They are proving that you don’t have to be from London to get national press attention and that if you work hard, rock harder and don’t give up you can be a successful band. Wagons are carving out a new path for Lancaster bands to follow in their footsteps and hopefully this will inspire a new generation of kids in the city to form a band and go for it like Massive Wagons have. “If they can achieve the target of a first ever Top 40 album for the city then this will give the local music scene a lot of attention and as they say ‘a rising tide raises all ships’.”
