NOX - new MP3 'Choronzonic Chaos Gods' available online

NOX - new MP3 'Choronzonic Chaos Gods' available online

Dutch Death Metal crew NOX have posted an advance mp3 on the Wicked World
Records myspace page http://www.myspace.com/wickedworldrecords.

Titled 'Choronzonic Chaos Gods' the track is the opening cut on the new
'Ixaxaar' album due on Feb 19.

'Ixaxaar' (pron. 'ick-sack-sar', meaning a seal or gateway to hell) broods
with the unhealthy marriage of cosmic chaos theories and grim-faced
aggression. With the kind of oily serpentine riffs not heard since early
Morbid Angel or Angelcorpse efforts, the band blend supreme technical
mastery with immediate catchiness and unholy malice. Favouring a
blast-based attack of extreme speed and sharply direct riffing, the
approach is deliberately lean and pretence-free.

Having performed with like-minded misanthropists such as Antaeus and
Nifelheim and with links to nefarious underground occult organisations
including the notorious M.L.O., Nox are intent on taking their subterranean
sound and beliefs to a wider audience IN 2007.

The band features ex-members of Centurian who issued one album via
Listenable, and current members of Severe Torture.

WITH PASSION COVER ARTWORK, CRAFTED BY DAVE QUIGGLE, RELEASED TO THE PUBLIC!

WITH PASSION COVER ARTWORK, CRAFTED BY DAVE QUIGGLE, RELEASED TO THE
PUBLIC!

Dynamic, organically conceived, and original – WITH PASSION
exemplify all of these characteristics and their forthcoming release,
“What We See When We Shut Our Eyes,” carries that
sentiment forward. World renowned artist, Dave Quiggle, is widely
known for his custom tattoo work and work with popular bands such as
ATREYU, SICK OF IT ALL, SCARS OF TOMMOROW and many more metal and
hardcore heavy hitters. Dave Quiggle has completed cover artwork for
WITH PASSION, displayed below, which combines themes of the album
with Dave Quiggles’ signature style and temperament. Awesomely
detailed, borderline frightening, yet poignantly beautiful –
Quiggle’s work compliments the musical complexity and depth of
“What We See When We Shut Our Eyes.” WITH PASSION’S
second release is due out late February 2006, featuring 10 blistering
tracks of forward-thinking metal from Sacramento’s fiercest
contenders!

WITH PASSION - A COMPREHENSIVE INTERVIEW WITH THE METAL'S MOST PROMISING WARRIORS

WITH PASSION - A COMPREHENSIVE INTERVIEW WITH THE METAL'S MOST
PROMISING WARRIORS

WITH PASSION have been setting stages ablaze with their genuine
blend of metallic goodness for almost five years! Armed with new
blood, Fidel Campos, WITH PASSION have completed work on their
sophomore Earache release, “What We See When We Shut Our
Eyes” and are thick in the fray of planning a supporting 2007
US tour. Get to know the WITH PASSION machine and a little snapshot
of what is to come from WITH PASSION!

WHO ARE WITH PASSION ?

Who is WITH PASSION – currently?

Fidel Campos – Lead Vocals
Gregory Donnelly - Guitar
Jeffrey Morgan – Drums
Michael Nordeen – Bass
John Abernathy - Guitar
How would you describe your sound? What sets you apart from other
bands in the genre?

Fidel: Technical melodic metal. We try to come across as original as
possible and try not to be as off the wall as most bands are trying
to do these days.

Jeff: I guess I would call it fairly technical, melodic death
metal-core-ish. You can definitely hear influence from other bands in
our music, but I can’t think of any other band that puts it all
together in quite the same style that we do.
Mike: I would definitely say technical melodic metal. I believe what
sets us apart is that we don’t try to go for just any one thing
as far as our sound or crowd. We love music, and we love to play
music. I think that translates well from how we write our music to
how we perform live.

John: We basically write what we want to write, with a focus on
technicality and high energy in every song. I think part of what sets
us apart from other bands in the genre is we put a bit of video game
music influence in our songs.
How would you describe a With Passion live show?

Fidel: Very raw and energetic. Lots of interaction with the listeners
and fans. So that we don’t forget what we are there for, which
is to entertain.

Jeff: From my perspective… very sweaty and lots of fun.
Mike: Head twirls, screaming, always sweat, sometimes blood, mosh
pits, dance floors, flying guitars, metal fingers, the claw and
brutality. They get pretty intense.
John: We just try to go as crazy as possible and have fun. The last
few shows I've even done some somersaults with my guitar on stage.
The music has a lot of intensity to it and I think it really reflects
on our stage performance. A lot of metal bands act very serious on
stage but we just try and have a good time and make people laugh.

The music is continuously tight! What is the band’s musical
background?

Fidel: It really varies from all spectrums of music.

Jeff: I think pretty much every member comes from a completely
different musical background. We all share some similar musical
interests, but I think the diversity helps add more dynamics to our
sound.

Mike: Everyone listens to everything. And we really mean it.
I’m not even going to attempt to list the bands and artists
that we all listen to. On the road the tour van is like a listening
station at a record store.

John: Well as far as our musical taste, yes we all listen to a
variety of music. If you are asking about the background of our music
training, we are all self taught musicians pretty much. I personally
just grew up learning Pantera, Slayer and Metallica riffs and solos
on my own, then just kind of progressed from there to learning sweeps
and other more technical shredding skills.

Why have there been so many lineup changes? Are the current members
here to stay?

Fidel: Being an outsider of the band situation at the time I could
not honestly answer that, but from my experience it is always lack of
commitment. As far as the current members, I believe we are very
committed and ready to take this as far as it will allow us to.

Jeff: I believe almost all of the line-up changes happened because of
members’ inabilities to tour frequently. I left the band once a
few years ago, but now I’m back and I’m here to stay. I
really do think this line-up is solid and won’t suffer any
losses any time soon. We all get along great and we’re all
super motivated.
Mike: The life of a touring musician playing heavy music is not for
everyone. There is to be an expected high turnover rate for anything
that only gives little to no return. The current lineup is the
hardest working group of guys and best friends I have ever seen. I
have more faith in them than I can express.

John: Some people just aren't in a position to tour full time due to
other commitments in life such as work and bills and relationships.
All the current members however are all ready to get on the road
almost all of next year and work our asses off even if it means
sacrificing many other aspects of life. Plus I think there may have
been minor personality conflicts with previous members whereas the
five of us now are best friends and getting along on the road has
never been a problem for us. Many other bands have had much more line
up changes than us and still recovered and achieved success, so I
really don't think it’s as big of an issue as a lot of people
make it out to be.

What do you think the current state of music is? How do you plan to
bring your sophomore album to the masses in such an oversaturated
market?
Fidel: The state of music is more image than the satisfaction of
making good music. We plan on touring and promoting are asses off
with the help of you fine people. Make people listen.

Jeff: I think there is definitely a trend in metal and hardcore right
now and I think we teeter on the edge of it. I just hope that our
music has a unique enough angle to it to make it stand out. As far as
getting our album to the masses, I guess we just plan to tour as much
as possible and get our music out to anyone and everyone who will
give us a chance.
Mike: The current state of music is the same as it always is. It
moves in cycles and waves. Right now, the type of music we play is
marketable. I believe that this good timing for our music to be
getting out there. We plan on being on the road in support of this
album as much as we can. I think that the owner of Relapse Records
said it best in regards to Mastodon. I don’t remember the exact
phrase, but something along the lines of there is a direct correlation
between bands that tour the most and successful bands. Saturated
market or not - we are going to tour often, and we are going to get
your attention.

John: Yeah, basically what the other guys said, we are just going to
tour as much as humanly possible. We love touring. It’s like
hanging out with your best friends and partying 24/7, and playing
music, so fuck it, why not stay on the road forever especially with a
new album to promote.
What do you guys do in your spare time?

Fidel: I like to hang out with my family. That is what is important
to me

Jeff: I work a lot so that I can cover my bills while we’re on
the road. I’ve also been a full-time student for a long time,
but recently finished my degree.

Mike: I love to collect music. I love to search out and find new
music. I guess I also drink, get on Myspace too often, watch too much
MTV, read not nearly as often as I would like, sleep too little and
talk too much. Oh, and I drive more than I care to.

John: I drink like a fish and hang out with my friends and
girlfriend. I try to hustle and scrape by without having a 9-5 job. I
play video games, go to parties, bars, and shows, and I too will admit
to lurking on Myspace a bit too often.

Where are you from? How did the band begin and describe the current
state?

Fidel: Sacramento, CA.

Jeff: I’m from Sacramento, CA just like most of the other guys.
The band originally began in ’02 when Shaun (ex-guitarist),
Jacob (ex-drummer) and I all quit a band we had previously in search
of a more creative musical outlet. With Passion was the result. The
band has come a long way since then. Currently, I think the band has
finally settled into a more permanent state. Now we’re just
anxiously awaiting whatever the future holds for us.
Mike: I’m from Vallejo, California. The rest of the guys, and
all of the previous members are all from Sacramento, California. The
band began in the July of 2002 because Jeff and previous members of
the band wanted to start a metal project where they could play more
technical music on their own terms. The current state of the band
really really really ridiculously good!

John: Yeah, the band started in 02, and shared a practice spot room
with my old band. Even the newer members of this band (Greg, Fedi and
I) all were good friends with most all the previous members, so when
most of the band members quit it just fit for us to join, especially
since Greg, Jeff and I since we were in a band together already that
was seeking to replace members. The current state is great we are all
working together very well and we all have the same level of
commitment.

Who were you most excited to play with? Who would be a dream band to
play with?

Fidel: I can’t say if I was ever excited to play with a certain
band. It depends on the band members. I’m a fan of lots of bands
but I’m more excited in playing in front of crowds of people
that enjoy what we are doing.

Jeff: I was personally most excited for the Nile, Hypocrisy tour we
did last winter. It wasn’t exactly a fitting line-up for us,
but it was a great opportunity all the same.

Mike: Bands I was most excited to play with are: As Hope Dies, Misery
Signals, The Red Chord, Deicide, Soilent Green, From A Second Story
Window, Into The Moat, I Burn Your Diary, Between the Buried and Me,
Decapitated, Cyanide Era, The Concubine, Into Eternity, Hypocrisy,
Neuraxis, um I think a ton more but I can’t remember. A dream
band to play with? Hmmm, maybe End This Day or Coma Eternal. Hell, I
really don’t care. It’s a dream to play any night with
any band.

John: Touring with Nile was nuts, but I get more excited just to play
with our friends such as bands like the Concubine. Also I get really
excited any time a local band blows my mind, for example in El Paso
we played with a band called I Burn Your Diary whom were ridiculous
live. It would be a dream just to play with any bands as long as we
are on tour and not at home!

What are your plans for 2007?

Fidel: Tour, tour, tour. Maybe work in between those, but hopefully
not.
Jeff: Tour, tour, tour!

Mike: What Fedi said!

John: Exactly. Tour – tour - tour.

Fidel – what is your background in the music scene? What are
your thoughts on being one of the few Filipino front men in the metal
scene? How do you feel about being in With Passion?

Fidel: Well I started out as a DJ, just doing house parties, clubs
and big events. Then eventually I started experimenting with live
bands just mainly doing sounds effects and samples. One of my first
bands that I actually started making a name for myself was a band
called Severance which oddly enough featured the original vocalist of
With Passion, Sam McLeod. We were a "rap metal" band. We made an
appearance on MTV’s TRL and won a nationwide battle of the
bands competition. Then later on I joined another band called
Beatofficers which I started doing back up vocals as well. Eventually
I teamed up with Spencer Daly (member of Beatofficers) and Flint
Marshall to form CYANIDE ERA in which I became an actual front man
for a metal band. Then finally, I was recruited into WITH PASSION.
I feel very privileged as being a Filipino front-man in a metal
band. Not very many minorities are very much involved in this genre
of music, but that just brings more people from my background and
nationality to be interested in this genre of music even if they
never were. I enjoy being a part of With Passion and I am here to
stay.
Name your top 5 albums of all time – in any genre.

Fidel:
Ice Cube - Amerikkas Most Wanted
Pantera - Cowboys From Hell
Radiohead - OK Computer
NWA -Straight Out of Compton
Slayer -Reign in Blood

Jeff:
The Get Up Kids – Four Minute Mile
Cave In – Beyond Hypothermia
Rilo Kiley – More Adventurous
Into Eternity – Buried in Oblivion
Rocky Votolato - Makers

Mike: (I know it’s not five, but I can’t decide!):
Dredg – Leitmotif/To Catch Without Arms
Misery Signals – Of Malice And The Magnum Heart/Mirrors
As Hope Dies – Legions Bow To A Faceless God
Panic! At The Disco – A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out
Dr. Dre – The Chronic
White Zombie – Astro Creep 2000

John:
Brand New - Deja Entendu
Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
Bone Thugz-n-Harmony - E 1999 Eternal
Immortal Technique - Revolutionary Vol 2
Into Eternity - Buried in Oblivion

Linea 77 Early years album

Linea 77 early years album featuring 2 new songs to be released Jan 2007

Italy's political HC metallers Linea 77 release "Venereal 1995" on Earache,
streetdating 29th January 2007.The album is a 12 song set showcasing a
retrospective of some of the bands earliest recordings, mostly in their
native language, along with 2 newly recorded songs in English.

The roots of Linea 77 are firmly planted in the politico-HC scene and many
of the tracks are culled from the numerous benefit compilations the band
appeared on in the late 90's.Without sacrificing their independence one
iota, the hard working ethics and fan-friendliness of the band have seen
them steadily rise from the ranks of the humble squat circuit to the
national Top 10 charts in Italy with their last studio effort, 2005's
'Available For Propaganda'.

This album gives fans a glimpse of the early roots of Linea 77, plus 2 new
exclusive tracks.

Akercocke work on new album

AKERCOCKE CHANGE GEAR

Akercocke are gearing up for the recording of their fifth album. The suited
ones plan to commence recording at their very own Goat of Mendes Studios in
December.

Frontman Jason Mendonca describes the new material as "...a logical
development from Words That Go Unspoken. We are continuing to enhance and
highlight the dynamics in our music. The contrast between light and shade
is stronger in places although in essence, our new work promises to be our
most violent. Expect hyperblast speeds that will shame the pretenders.
Bludgeoning primitive death grooves, rancorous hate filled black metal and
teutonic thrash assaults all seared with swathes of mind shredding
electronica and dark, ancient textures."

Akercocke's last album "Words That Go Unspoken, Deeds That Go Undone" was
released on Earache in 2005. The forthcoming album to be released in May
2007 will be the band's third with Earache records.

CULT OF LUNA'S -SOMEWHERE ALONG THE HIGHWAY - IS NAMED ONE THE THE TOP ALBUMS OF 2006

CULT OF LUNA'S "SOMEWHERE ALONG THE HIGHWAY" IS NAMED ONE THE THE TOP
ALBUMS OF 2006

CULT OF LUNA have yielded bounties of positive press and recognition
for their latest Earache release, “Somewhere Along the
Highway,” which has captured fans and new listeners with
its’ genuinely dynamic, unique sound. Metallically savvy and
diverse, DECIBEL magazine have named CULT OF LUNA’S
“Somewhere Along the Highway” #5 on their “Top
40” of 2006 list – praising “Somewhere Along the
Highway” as an album that “...makes its points straight
away, evoking a rich gamut of bad moods, than marching purposefully
toward the gray at the end of the tunnel.” Atmospherically
driven, yet ominously organic, “Somewhere Along the
Highway” was recorded in very basic conditions, augmenting the
already diverse feeling of the music. CULT OF LUNA have recently
recorded a video for “Back to Chapel Town” - check it out
at http://www.cultofluna.com! CULT OF LUNA will be launching into a
full Swedish tour in February of 2007 in full support of
“Somewhere Along the Highway.”

Biomechanical redux out now with PAINKILLER plus report from EXODUS tour

Biomechanical Empires of the worlds special edition is OUT NOW

The re-release of awesome British band Biomechanical debut album with
Earache is out now in a Limited edition redux including a cover of
Painkiller.

The cover of the legendary ‘Painkiller’ was recorded over three days with
the track’s original producer Tsangarides, at his own studio in Dover, UK.
Singer John K from Biomechanical recently spoke about his appreciation of
the track, which has featured as a highlight of the band's set for some
time, stating: “When the song was first introduced to the scene in 1990 it
blew everything out of the water, it was an instant classic and sure
withstood the test of time. We’re really glad to be able to do homage to
the original”.

You can take a look at a pic of the band with Chris Tsangardies in the
studio here

www.earacherecords.com/myspace/Biomech.jpg.

‘Painkiller’ is released now by Earache on a limited edition re-dux of
Biomechanical’s second album ‘The Empires Of The Worlds’, which also
includes 3 bonus Quicktime Videos including behind the scenes footage of
the band in the studio and on location filming their promo clip last year.

Here is the latest update from Jon K of Biomechanical from the road with
Exodus:

"Hey dudes, I’m here with all the guys

So far it’s been awesome fun and there are a few stories to tell already...
The venues have been awesome and the same goes for the guys who came to the
gigs.
There was an incident in Bradford, basically Chris and Jamie were nearly
killed by two cars!! This is what Jamie told me:

“After the Bradford Rio’s show Chris & I were chatting to the fans outside,
then decided to head of to the Kebab shop! As we walked around the corner
we heard an almighty BANG, like a gunshot. As we turned around we saw two
cars spinning through the air in slow motion. They hit the wall & both
landed upside down RIGHT BEHIND US!! SHIT MY PANTS OH YES!!!! If we were a
few seconds later we would have been crushed by the cars.
A billion police cars, fire engines, ambulances etc turned up to cut the
people from the cars. On a good note, the Kebabs were awesome!”

The Dublin was totally awesome in so many levels. The fans were going
mental so much so the security guys threw out a dude who was going crazy,
didn’t like that shit but you can’t argue with the security guys.

This is what Matt said:

“Our ferry crossing to Dublin was surreal to say the least. Stena line can
now boast with confidence that it bore witness to the most metal crossing
ever!!!!!
With the ‘Unholy Alliance’ tour in Dublin the night after our show, the
ferry was littered with members of various bands slumped over tables with
beers, wandering around gift shops and devouring Burger king
for breakfast. In another surprise, it was great to find out that so many
of the guys from Lamb of God, In Flames and Slayer turned up to the show
and stuck around afterwards to drink with us. Proving that as well as
awesome musicians, they are also very cool guys….”

Shortly after Matt used a broken hand-dryer and electrocuted himself!!…in
all fairness he was very drunk.
He is OK thought, no worries : -)

The guys from Exodus have been amazing. Really cool with the band and have
been ripping the shit out of the clubs we’ve been playing with awesome
performances every single night!! Real privilege touring with those guys
and also to meet Nick Barker (Cradle of Filth, Testament, Dimmu Borgir) who
helps out with touring stuff .

Keep an eye for photos we will post soon,

See ya on the road"

DEICIDE’S BACKSTAGE ROOM IS VANDALIZED BY OPENING BAND IN CALIFORNIA

DEICIDE’S BACKSTAGE ROOM IS VANDALIZED BY OPENING BAND IN
CALIFORNIA

DEICIDE have been diligently blazing though the US in full support
of “The Stench of Redemption” and are preparing to
release their second live DVD, set for release in February 2007. In
an unexplained act of vandalism on November 8th at The Galaxy Theater

bands’ personal property as well as the clubs’ property.
DEICIDE will be following up with legal action against this
individual, as will the management of The Galaxy Theater. Soldiering
on, DEICIDE will be wrapping up the US end of the tour with
DESOLATION and entering the Mexican leg of the tour in late November.

Biomechanical Dytone endorsement

Jamie, guitar wizard of Biomechanical has recently been endorsed by Dytone
- he explains here:
"What happened is the guys from Guitar, amp and keyboard in Brighton
basically arranged for a string endorsement for the tour, and as a result
of this I got a Dytone endorsement.
Dytone is a German company that makes effects pedals, they are all handmade
- I use them for distortion boost on solos and also the delays in choruses
Maybe in the future I'll have a chance to have some hand made to my
specification!"

MUNICIPAL WASTE plan for 2007 tour with DESTRUCTION and candid interview now posted on DigitalMetal.com

MUNICIPAL WASTE plan for 2007 tour with DESTRUCTION and candid
interview now posted on DigitalMetal.com

Thrash is back and thanks to MUNICIPAL WASTE, thrash is currently
undergoing a rampant revival! MUNICIPAL WASTE are currently in the
fray of touring with legendary GWAR and THE RED CHORD and have been
received throughout North America with astounding praise, winning
over audiences one city at a time! MUNICIPAL WASTE are tentatively
slated to join thrash masters, DESTRUCTION and SADUS on a 2007
supporting tour while continuing to write material for their second
Earache release. DESTRUCTION tour dates and venues will be announced
shortly – check the Earache.com TOUR section for updated
details! A reissue of “Hazardous Mutation,” complete with
bonus DVD of live footage, is slated for a January release in the US.
On a recent tour date in Canada, MUNICIPAL WASTE sat down with David
Perri of DigitalMetal.com to talk about touring, “Hazardous
Mutation,” and much more! The interview is as follows:
Check out the original interview at:
http://digitalmetal.com/interviews.asp?iID=7805 <http://
http://digitalmetal.com/interviews.asp?iid=7805>MUNICIPAL WASTE
INTERVIEW – by David Perri

DigitalMetal: Hazardous Mutation received a lot of positive response
from both critics and fans alike. What are your thoughts on all the
accolades?
Tony Foresta: We’re stoked, man. It’s a good thing. We
worked our asses off on that record. How many years was it between
Waste ‘Em All and Hazardous Mutation?
Ryan Waste: Two years, at least.
TF: Yeah, like two or three years.
RW: Well, that’s with line-up changes and everything. The
record went really fast with the new line-up, when we got Dave and
Land Phil (bass) things went really quickly. When they joined the
band, we blazed it out and the intensity was there. It came together
really well and the energy was there so it happened fast.
TF: The response has been really good. This line-up is still really
fresh to us and we’re ready for the next record. We think the
next record is going to be even better. We’re such a tight unit
now.
RW: We can just start putting ‘em out now.
Dave Witte: We’re working really hard on new material and
it’s funny because this March or April coming up it’ll be
two years that we recorded Hazardous Mutation. We’ve been on
tour since so it’s gone by really fast.
TF: We’ve been touring our asses off.
RW: Hazardous Mutation isn’t even new to us at this point;
it’s a year old. But it’s still fresh to a lot of people
and a lot of people are still finding out about it, so were excited.

DigitalMetal: The song-writing is top notch, do you guys end up
discarding a lot of riffs?
RW: It used to be that I was alone writing songs on Waste ‘Em
All. It was pretty much there’s the riffs, and then we wrote
the songs. This time me and Phil got together and had time to bounce
riffs off each other and then we presented them to Tony and Dave. And
then we pieced them together with Dave with all the transitions.
Sometimes we had a concept for our lyrics that we had been sitting on
for a while and then Tony would write some lyrics on his wrist.
TF: Yeah, I write lyrics on my wrist! (laughs) That’s probably
one of the hardest things about writing the fucking songs, what
we’re going to write about. I know it seems like our songs are
stupid and simple, but we’ve got concept songs, man! (laughs)
RW: We’re like that dude who really puts a lot of time into his
essay to make it the best shit. (laughs)
TF: But it is the best shit! It is! (laughs) I’m the lyrical
miracle. Print that, I’m the lyrical miracle!

DigitalMetal: So when’s the concept album? When’s the
Operation: Mindcrime?
TF: Soon! Wasted Space is coming at you in 20 009. Yeah, not 2009, 20
009.
RW: That’s like, very far away. Like, we’ll have lasers.
DW: We’re going to record in no gravity, and have those lasers.
TF: We’re going to take Virgin Spacecrafts Airline and record
that shit in space.

DigitalMetal: You guys get called crossover all the time which,
really, describes the band best. How do you feel when you’re
called ‘80s crossover?
RW: That’s cool. It mixes our two favorite genres, metal and
hardcore, so it’s cool. But it’s not metalcore. The shit
they call metalcore is not metal and hardcore, it’s just whack.
(laughs) And that’s all I have to say about that. We’ve
got the speed of hardcore and the metal riffing.

DigitalMetal: It’s like you guys are thrash meets Minor Threat.
TF: Yeah, damn right. I love hardcore. And I love fucking metal.
RW: I like the aggression of hardcore and the tightness of metal, but
without drawing out the metal and making them stupid long songs. With
us, it’s just get in there, beat your ass, and get out.

DigitalMetal: Furthering the Minor Threat connection is your track
“Guilty Of Being Tight”, a play on Minor Threat’s
“Guilty Of Being White”.
DW: That song, we recorded it and we were like, “Yeah,
it’s good” and we didn’t even listen back to it. It
was one take, just one take.

DigitalMetal: The majority of the tracks on Hazardous Mutation are
fast. Fast tracks are awesome. Are faster songs what you guys prefer,
personally?
RW: Everyone loves the fast tracks.
TF: Dude, we just have short attention spans!
RW: Playing fast is the most aggressive way to express yourself.
DW: It gets the blood flowing, it gets the blood pumping.
TF: When I do power-squats at the gym, I listen to our music. Man,
those power-squats are awesome! Like crisp lettuce. Crisp. Lettuce.
Crisp lettuce, that’s an inside joke. And, dude, we will
steam-roll you with inside jokes ‘cos, like I said, we’ve
got short attention spans! (laughs)

DigitalMetal: The tracks also have big hooks. Are big choruses
important to you guys?
RW: I like big hooks. And man, I like music you can fuckin’
rock out to. Fist pumping level is at slow as it gets. Never slow,
all go.
DW: I like all music. I love a record you can come back to a year or
two years later and still fucking get the same thing from it. And
with the hooks and catchiness you mentioned, you can do that.

DigitalMetal: So many bands these days are playing ‘80s thrash
in an ironic way. What are your thoughts on this trend?
RW: You can call us throwback and all that. I think we’ve taken
it and done our own things with it, if I can be so bold. I think other
bands are copying us. We want to write music that you can put on with
the older bands that we grew up with. And there’s tons of
Canadian stuff: Razor, Sacrifice, Slaughter, Annihilator, Voivod... I
met (ex-Voivod bass player) Blacky tonight, man. He was at the show
and he was a really nice guy. There are tons of Canadian bands that
are an influence.
TF: And Rush! Don’t forget Rush.
RW: We do love Rush.
DW: They can call us whatever. I grew up with this music and
I’ve always wanted to play it and I could never find people who
wanted to play this style. Then I just happened to move to Richmond
(Virginia) and these guys said, “What’s up?” so we
started.
TF: We’re not ironic, but we’re also not serious.
We’re not going up there trying to teach a lesson or something.
We’re just having fun.
RW: Believe it or not, we’re not the most serious people in the
world. (laughs)
DW: I’ve played in a lot of bands, and this is the most fun
I’ve ever had in a band. Municipal Waste Fan Who Drove 12 Hours
From New Brunswick To Montreal To See The Band (aka Random Dude): This
sound is empowering. It’s empowerment.
TF: Empowerment!

DigitalMetal: What are the goals with the band? What do you guys want
to accomplish?
RW: We want to go to Japan. It should be happening soon, hopefully.
We want to go to every fucking land in the world.
TF: We want to write the best record possible.
RW: The next record is going to bust our ass.
TF: Everyone in the band has a set focus on writing a great new
record. We’re going to do this tour and then we’re going
to tour with Destruction and Sadus and then we’re going to
fucking write the best record.
RW: We’re going to out-do ourselves. And we’re not going
to over-compensate with speed, either. It’s just going to be in
your face on every level and more intense.
DW: It’s going to be a progression. And it’s going to be
a personal challenge for each one of us.
TF: We’re going to have everything on it. Rap, jazz, all kinds
of shit.

DigitalMetal: So it’s going to be DJ Municipal Waste, no doubt.
TF: Yeah man, we’re going to write chill-out music.

DigitalMetal: Is the next record going to come out on Earache?
TF: Oh yeah. We got shit-faced with Digby, the guy who owns the label
and we told him the new record was going to be slow, with no solos and
we totally convinced Digby we were going to do a funk record. It was
hilarious. And, man, I am going to rap about Earache on the new
record.

DigitalMetal: Let’s hear it. Free-style it.
TF: Ok, it goes like this…

(Author’s Note: Tony totally free-styles it and makes everyone
laugh with his dope rhymes. Unfortunately, the batteries in the tape
recorder die out and the rest of this gem of an interview is lost
forever. Fuckin’ batteries. But long live the Waste!)

Ephel Duath's drummer talks sheet music on youtube and Ephel Duath report on the Imploding tour PLUS interview on Totalrock tomorrow!

Italian Jazz-metallers Ephel Duath are now back home in Italy after their
European tour.

"We've just returned home after seventeen hours travelling from Bruxelles
to Padua." Davide Ephel Duath's guitarist reports "The first part of the
Ephel Duath's Imploding Euro Tour is finished and it's time to reflect.
We have been lucky with nine UK dates and extremely good support
band, the math-corers Tangaroa. The tour crew has became a
sort of enlarged family, and we have to thanks these five crazy Tangaroa
guys for some of the funniest moments of the whole tour. Our favourite
shows were at London Underworld, the Bournemouth's Gander and supporting
Red Sparowes @ Southampton's Nexus.
Before leaving the Uk we have did a last minute show at the University of
Luton with our label mates Biomechanical. That was one hell of a crazy
crowd! Yeh!
Then we were off to France and Belgium playing in two very different
venues. The Batofar in Paris - an old red boat in the river Seine, and
Magasen 4 in Brussels a sort of small musical factory in the centre of the
city.
Probably the best two shows of the whole tour for the band's performance,
but go to Paris was the strangest and funniest show of the Ephel Duath's
Imploding tour.
We want to thank all the people who came out to see us on the tour, we feel
a growing support for Ephel Duath and this pushes us to do the best at
every
occasion.
Up the Ephels!
Thanks,
Lucio, Fabio, Sergio and Davide."

the UNDERWORLD in Camden, London
And Saturday 4th November at the Concorde 2 in Brighton

And

ALSO
Hear SEVERE TORTURE interviewed LIVE on www.totalrock.com at 4pm UK time on
Friday 3rd November
Email the studio with questions studio@totalrock.com

The latest Severe Torture tour diary installment:

After we left Spain we had one show to do in Dijon (FR) before going to
Italy. We played in this venue called The Vapeur and it was an amazing
venue! Best catering sofar and huge stage as well. 300 people showed up and
we had the chance to play a extra long set with Sawn Off & Consuming the
Dying added.

For the next days we are playing 4 shows in Italy, which is new to us
because usually we only play Italy once when we're on tour. The first show
took place in the city of Bologna. The venue was huge and way to big for
the package we had so it appeared al little strange at first. But luckily,
the people that showed up were up or a solid night of deathmetal. The
atmosphere was great and the crowd gave us a warm welcome back to Italy.
Grazi!

Rome was the setting for the second day in Italy. We arrived in time to do
some serious sightseeing, so we got the chance to visit the Colloseum and
such. This was kinda cool since we were playing Shadows of Rome in the
nightliner at night for a couple of weeks now so it was cool to be able to
witness where the carnage used to take place. After we went out of the
tourist mode we did a show for a bloodthirsty crowd at the Alpheus. It was
great to hear people screaming for songs ranging from "Misanthropic
Carnage" to "End of Christ".

The next 2 shows on the list were Siena and Padova. Club Sonar in Siena
started out a little calm but turned into a good show after we did our
little trick... Next was Padova and for the last Italian show it was great!
People were really into us and went crazy! We stayed at the cub pretty long
and had a nice little party outside till early in the morning...

After 4 days we left Italy and invaded Austria. First on the list was
Althofen and club Endorphin turned out to be a really small bar with a tiny
stage in the corner. With a minimal backline and no triggers we did our
best to turn the place upside down and that was much appreciated by the
fans. After the show we headed off to Salzburg were we woke up at 10 in the
morning. Time enough to do some sightseeing and get some real breakfast.
Rockhaus is a great venue and we did a great show. After the show we took
our place in the bar next to the venue and after Vaders show the whole tour
entourage joined the party!

Last show in Austria was Vienna and we have good memories of Vienna. In the
past we played in the Arena but this time the show was in a venue called
Planet Music. Great venue and the show was organised by the guys from
Goddamned X who were support act since Italy. They did a very good job and
the show went very smooth.

Blood red throne start work on new album

Norwegian death metallers Blood Red Throne have been working in Jailhouse
studio for the last 2 days on a pre production for the new album due out on
Earache early 2007.
70% of the material is written and the band started pre production to test
both the studio and the two new members, Anders Haave (drums) and Vald
(vocals).
4 songs have been recorded so far and the band is extremely pleased with
both the material and the sound.
"This time, we aim for a more classic Death Metal sound, ala Gorguts
"Considered Dead" / Suffocation "Despise the Sun" kind of sound. We have
grown tired with the over-produced and fully triggered drum kits that so
many bands use today, besides we have taken a slightly new direction with
our music and the analog and dynamic sound fits the music better. We have
also chosen a different approach to the recording process of the
instruments. We are very pleased with the outcome of the 4 songs and cant
wait till the actual album recording starts, hopefully sometime in
December".
Some working titles of the forthcoming songs: "Rebirth in Blood", "Come
Death" and "No New beginning".
